Baked Ziti
Tube pasta, marinara, ricotta and a bubbling mozzarella top — the crowd-pleasing baked pasta that feeds a table with almost no last-minute work.
Ingredients
- 16 oz ziti or penne
- 24 oz marinara sauce (1 jar)
- 15 oz whole-milk ricotta cheese (1 container)
- 1 large egg
- 2 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp kosher salt
Steps
- Heat the oven to 375°F. Cook the pasta in salted water until 1 minute shy of al dente, then drain.
- Mix the ricotta, egg, 1 cup of mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning and salt.
- Combine the pasta with the marinara and the ricotta mixture in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Top with the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella.
- Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes, then uncover and bake 10 minutes more until bubbling and golden.
- Rest 10 minutes before serving so the slices hold together.
Serve with: garlic bread, a Caesar salad and extra marinara on the side.
Undercooking the pasta by a minute matters — it finishes in the oven and stays firm instead of turning mushy.
